Wind power firm wants Manx residents to be 'proud' of offshore turbines

Ørsted exploring options for Manx power connection

Renewable energy company Ørsted says it hopes Manx residents will be 'proud' of a wind farm which it hopes to develop off of the Island's east coast.

The Mooir Vannin site will sit between 6-12 miles off the shore, within the Isle of Man's territorial waters.

Meanwhile, the company is exploring two options around bringing the power generated to the Island - either through a direct cable from the wind farm or connecting it to the UK grid, with the option for the Island to then buy the power.

Jamie Baldwin is the project director:

This week Ørsted announced that it expects the Island to benefit from £2bn through taxation, seabed rental, and community funds over the 35-year lifespan of the wind farm.
