Infrastructure launches Active Travel Strategy
Government is aiming to have 10,000 people walking and cycling to work by 2022.
The target was set out today by the Department of Infrastructure at the launch of their Active Travel Strategy (8 Oct).
At Ballakermeen's Studio Theatre, they were joined by Sustrans, a UK-based charity who work with communities to encourage safe, convenient and inclusive means of active travel.
According to official figures, just 6000 of the Island's working population opts to walk, run or cycle to work.
In the next five years however, Minister Ray Harmer plans to see that number increase to 1 in 4, despite criticising of the Island's infrastructure:
