Members are set to press ministers on issues ranging from accountability to the Island’s economic outlook
The Isle of Man’s political leaders face a wide-ranging series of questions when Tynwald sits today, with topics spanning whistleblowing, infrastructure, education, healthcare, and the economy.
Onchan MHK Julie Edge will again raise concerns over whistleblowing policy, asking what advice was received before politicians were removed from the government’s whistleblowing framework, and how many employees have completed mandatory training since 2021.
She will also question the chief minister over the number of whistleblowing cases reported this year.
Economic challenges are also in focus. Arbory, Castletown and Malew MHK Jason Moorhouse is seeking figures on the number of young people not in work or education, and details of any assessment linked to proposed changes to the rating and valuation system.
Fellow constituency member Tim Glover is requesting an update on the medicinal cannabis sector.
From Ramsey, Lawrie Hooper is pressing for explanations over the continued weekend closure of the Ramsey Minor Injuries Unit, the Island’s falling Gross National Product (GNP), and the possible implications of a proposed UK digital ID scheme.
Questions from Douglas Central MHK Chris Thomas cover the membership and remit of the Airport Board, the cost of external consultants on energy projects in Manx waters, and definitions used by the Manx Development Corporation when allocating key-worker housing.
Infrastructure will feature prominently, with the minister expected to face queries about the Liverpool ferry terminal’s final cost, future housing agency governance, and the Department’s vehicle fleet strategy.
Other questions address issues in education, healthcare capacity linked to new housing developments, the climate change baseline year, and public sector data reporting methods.
Tynwald sits from 10am this morning, beginning with questions.
Manx Radio will be broadcasting the sitting on its AM 1368 frequency, or online.
