Weighty issues for last Tynwald of 2016

Decisions will shape future services

A busy sitting lies ahead for Tynwald today.

The last sitting of the year will see discussion and debate on a wide range of issues facing the Island in the years ahead.  

Proceedings begin with 21 questions for ministers, from 10.30am.

The extended Freedom of Information Act is due before the court, which will open up all government departments to greater transparency a year ahead of schedule.

Members will also be asked to consider a much-debated single resident record, along with its moral and technical implications.

There will be a review of several recommendations on improving children and families social services - which, in light of a recent departmental data breach, are likely to provoke debate.

Two major infrastructure reports also come under the spotlight, as the court considers government's latest strategy document on ferry services; as well as a review of the options for Douglas Promenade.
