Is the event becoming too commercial?

'We need to keep the spirit of the TT alive.'

That's the view of a social media commentator, and TT fan, who has told Manx Radio he believes the event is in danger of becoming too commercial.

Frank Schuengel has been immersing himself in the festival atmosphere, filming content for his social media channels, over the motor racing fortnight.

Mr Schuengel, who moved to the Island 26 years ago, says he believes the event is moving from being a 'biker-fest' to an 'extreme sport event'.

And he is concerned about the impact of the new film being made adding: 'I'm quite sure we'll see a Game of Thrones effect where Dubrovnik (in Croatia) was overrun with tourists. My concern is that it (the Island) will turn into Disneyland on two wheels."

He believes the authenticity of the event needs to be protected:

Manx Radio has invited the Department for Enterprise and Isle of Man TT Races to respond.
