'Waste' food welcomed by homeless charity

Supermarket in talks with distribution network

A charity co-ordinator says waste food donated by supermarkets can really help those in need, if managed properly.

His comments come in the wake of controversy over photographs of Co-op bins full of just out of date food in Ramsey.

Many called for something more productive to be done with it.

The supermarket's local area manager is now in talks with Housing Matters (who contacted him) about becoming involved in Fare Share, a distribution network which helps get the produce to those in need.

Tesco and Marks and Spencer are already involved here.

Michael Manning of Graih says such donations are gratefully received by the people who use the homeless charity's services.
