Warning to travellers as baggage screeners set to walk out at Gatwick

Strike expected over the late August Bank Holiday weekend

The Unite union is warning travellers of 'severe August delays' and disruption as baggage screeners at Gatwick Airport are to walk out in a row over pay.

It says the workers, employed by ICTS, are 'amongst the lowest paid workers at the airport earning just above the minimum wage'.

They are set to strike from 22 August to 26 August, and again from 29 August to 2 September. 

Unite says 'all flights out of Gatwick will face disruption during these times' and warns the 'industrial action will intensify if the dispute is not resolved'.

The London airport is a key link to the UK for the Island, with several easyJet flights operating between it and Ronaldsway each week.

General Secretary Sharon Graham said: "ICTS has more than enough money to offer these workers a fair pay rise. Not doing so is just corporate greed. 

"ICTS’ Gatwick workers will receive Unite’s complete backing for as long as it takes during their strikes for fair pay."
