Station Officer responds after five-acre blaze
A large rural fire yesterday should act as a warning as we head into the summer months, according to a station officer.
Fire services were called to a blaze between the Patrick Road and the old railway line at St John's which rapidly spread to cover an area of five acres.
Roger Brown says the fire had spread after a controlled burn got out of hand, despite plenty of rain recently.
Fire officers had to use six Pinzgauer six-wheel drive vehicles to help bring flames under control.
