Special accolade from local authority
A popular Normandy veteran has been recognised for his 'outstanding contribution' to his home village.
Hector Duff has been awarded the Onchan Community Cross Award (Crosh Pobble Chonnaghyn), handed out every two years to especially deserving local residents.
The decorated Manxman is being commended for his 'publicly spirited work' including many years working for the police force, and teaching generations of students about the Second World War.
Onchan District Commissioners called Hector 'the epitome of selflessness and endeavour'.
He will be given the award at a special civic reception next month.
