Unique tribute to Ramsey WWI fallen

Each resident lost marked with cross on 100th anniversary

The town of Ramsey is continuing to take a unique approach to commemorating the centenary of the First World War.

The commissioners, in conjunction with the Royal British Legion, are marking the centenary of each Ramsey resident lost in the Great War, by placing a commemorative cross at the northern town's war memorial.

Last Thursday evening, 9 August, Private George Herbert Joughin, and Private Henry 'Harry' Sayle were remembered, on the 100th anniversary of their deaths.

Chair of the Isle of Man Royal British Legion, Ray Ferguson, says the impact of the losses on the town would have been significant.

The next commemoration takes place on Thursday, 23 August.
