Union official stresses positives

A union official says the priority at Castle Rushen High School is the welfare of the students.

The school (pictured) became the subject of a special investigation, after concerns were raised by various parties earlier this year.

A report concluded there were 'serious weaknesses', especially with regard to consultation between management, staff and governors. But it also highlighted the school's excellent academic record and the commitment of the staff to pupils.

Field Officer for the Association of School and College Leaders David Thompson recognises there are problems which must be tackled, but says the report clearly shows Castle Rushen is a happy place for students (audio file attached):
