NASUWT says Manx teachers 'significantly out of kilter' with UK colleagues

A teacher's union will pursue legal action after what it has called 'unproductive' talks with the Department of Education over a dispute of its members pay.

The NASUWT says it has put the department on notice since September last year, blaming the current pay award for Manx teachers for 'widening the gap' between them and their colleagues in the UK. 

It claims a higher cost of living, increases to National Insurance and pension contributions have put teachers 30% worse off than where they would have been 10 years ago.

The union has now requested a Court of Inquiry which will see the Manx Industrial Relations Service form an independent chair to look into the matter.
