UK relationship as strong as ever

The United Kingdom says it’s not going to examine its relationship with the Isle of Man after all.

Chancellor of the Exchequer Alistair Darling made the suggestion during a Treasury Select Committee hearing in London recently, sparking fears of a constitutional crisis.

Chief Minister Tony Brown (pictured) led a delegation to London to meet Lord Chancellor Jack Straw to clear up what the remarks meant.

And although he says he hasn’t received an apology, he is happy with the outcome of yesterday's meeting.

He told Manx Radio:

"In politics people are reluctant to admit any errors like that and I think what is important is that we move on.

"From the Isle of Man's point of view, the chancellor gave a categoric assurance there was no provision of the United Kingdom Government looking to re-examine our constitutional position.

"He said it's as strong as ever."
