UK child protection system not needed here

There is to be no 'Sarah's Law' in the Isle of Man.

The scheme allows parents to check if people with access to their children are sex offenders.

It won wide support after the murder of Sarah Payne in Sussex ten years ago, and is currently being run as a pilot in the United Kingdom.

However, Home Affairs Minister Adrian Earnshaw told Tynwald 'Sarah's Law' wasn't needed on the Island because it already had an effective child protection system.

He said Sarah's Law had been closely examined (play audio file):

There are currently 29 people on the Isle of Man's sex offender's register, a small number of them for offences against children.

The Department of Home Affairs will review the situation regarding 'Sarah's Law' in 2013.
