Isle of Man Energy says it has no plans to remove standing charges
Isle of Man Energy has confirmed it has no plans to alter its charging structure after the UK announced measures to soften the blow of rising gas prices
UK gas customers will see standing charges scrapped from their bills, while 20 million households in Council Tax bands A to D will receive a £100 household energy payment.
Isle of Man Energy told Manx Radio that removing standing charges would benefit some customers, but could mean others pay more, as the cost currently covered by the standing charge would instead be recovered through the unit price of energy.
This means those who use less energy could save money, while others who use more would see bills increase.
As an Island-based energy provider the company says any change of this nature would need to have the clear support of the community, the regulator and government.
