Packed agenda includes minimum wage, parental leave, and transport strategy

A wide-ranging agenda awaits as Tynwald is set to reconvene after the summer recess.

Key items include a Council of Ministers statement on the Richard Wright KC report into the government’s handling of the Ranson case, followed by debates on the Child First Policy, and the new Transport Strategy 2025–2035.

The sitting will also feature a personal statement from the enterprise minister on the Island’s tourism sector, alongside departmental plans from Home Affairs and Environment, Food and Agriculture.

Among the motions tabled by individual members, Onchan MHK Julie Edge will call for a Select Committee to investigate the government’s whistleblowing policy, while Douglas Central MHK Chris Thomas has submitted motions on affordable housing and active travel and parking.

Peel MHK Kate Lord-Brennan will seek a funded infrastructure plan for Peel ahead of the forthcoming Area Plan for the North and West, and Douglas East MHK Joney Faragher will propose that training in neurodiversity and inclusive practice be embedded into teacher training and professional development.

A general debate will also take place on the outcomes of the 2025 Government Conference, including presentations on public finance, connectivity, housing, and healthcare.

Legislation and regulations due for approval include changes to minimum wage rates, a suite of new parental and bereavement leave measures, social security and benefits amendments, customs and excise updates, and revised health and safety regulations.

October's Tynwald sitting will get underway on 10am on Tuesday (21 October) with coverage available on Manx Radio AM 1368, DAB, online and on smart devices.
