Minister criticises 'misguided' motion
An MHK has failed with his attempt to have Manx Utilities lower its water rate increase for the year ahead.
Lawrie Hooper told Tynwald the 6.4% hike - which comes in line with the Retail Prices Index - went against the Programme For Government's pledge to limit charge increases.
Treasury Minister Alf Cannan put forward an amendment, calling for the concerns to be recognised, and supporting a review of Manx Utilities' financial position.
He labelled Mr Hooper's motion 'well intentioned but misguided' - and Treasury will now report back to Tynwald in October.
Tynwald members approved the amended motion, despite a plea from Mr Hooper to reconsider.
