Tynwald backs report on TV licence fee

No end to the licence fee but more value for money sought from the BBC.

Those were among the initial recommendations of the Select Committee on the Television Licence Fee, whose report was debated by Tynwald yesterday (Wednesday).

The committee sat for eighteen months taking evidence from a variety of sources, both on and off the Isle of Man, including senior BBC officials.

Committee chairman Graham Cregeen outlined the main recommendations to MHKs and MLCs (listen to audio file below):

The report, as amended by Home Affairs Minister Adrian Earnshaw, was passed by Tynwald.

The Council of Minister will now look at it, and report back by January next year.
