Increase to come in from April 2016
Tynwald has approved a 50 per cent increase in the sewerage charge.
It will go up to 92 pence in the pound, as of April 2016.
Members debated the increase for around two hours, with some voicing serious concerns about the impact the rise would have on some people.
But in the end, Manx Utilities Authority Chairman Alf Cannan's motion was passed - 13 for and 10 against in the House of Keys, and seven for and two against in the Legislative Council.
Speaking ahead of the vote, Mr Cannan said the increase was essential:
