Work can begin on the construction of a mental health facility near Noble's Hospital and a new GP surgery in the Chester Street Car Park, following unanimous approval by Tynwald of both schemes, at a total cost of £2.3 million.
The 14 bed rehabilitation and treatment unit will be built within the Ballamona Estate, and will replace facilities at Tynwald Terrace, Strang.
Health Minister Eddie Teare (pictured) told Tynwald it would be a major improvement (audio file attached):
The GP surgery - costing £800,000 - will replace the Loch Promenade Medical Centre which, according to the DHSS, no longer meets the needs of the people it serves.
