The people of Michael are going to the polls today (Thursday) to elect a new member of the local commissioners.
The vacancy arose after the resignation of chairman Michael Neary in September.
The two candidates, Janet Bailey and David Goldsmith, both live in Kirk Michael.
Mrs Bailey is head of Community Development at the Philip Christian Centre in Peel, and Mr Goldsmith is a retired civil servant.
The polling station, at the commisisoners offices in Main Road, Kirk Michael, is open until 8pm.
Just over 1,200 residents are on the electoral register and at the last by-election the turnout was just over 25 per cent.
The result should be known at around 9pm.
