Twelfth Manx Bard 'delighted' to be chosen

The newly selected Manx Bard says he's 'delighted' to be chosen. 

Port Erin man 'Declan' is the 12th person to take up the position.

He was inaugurated at St John’s Methodist Hall on 20 September.

Declan impressed judges with his ability to 'fuse two cultures' and will spend his year in the role promoting poetry and Manx culture on and off the Island. 

He said: "The subject matter of my poems is usually pop culture and folklore, in particular music. 

"There is a distinct Manx flavour to my work."

Bridge Carter, founder of The Manx Bard, said: "Declan was so engaging and his enthusiasm really shone through. 

"He’s already as well-known local poet and musician and I loved his take on Manx culture and his ideas for bringing poetry and music together."
