TV Licences for elderly could be scrapped - again

Older people may have to start paying for TV Licences again, as the BBC prepares to review its funding model.

Those aged 75 and over in the Isle of Man formerly had their fees paid by the Manx government, before support was withdrawn in 2015.

UK residents are entitled to a free licence from the BBC itself.

Following protracted negotiations, in April it was announced the broadcaster had agreed to fund Manx residents too.

However, a shake-up to the licence fee could be on the way, ahead of a review to be conducted over the next two years.

BBC Director General Tony Hall confirmed the move while giving evidence to UK MPs earlier this week.
