Drivers 'deserve fairness, not vilification', says trade union group

Both sides in the bus drivers' dispute are calling for the public not to be abusive to Bus Vannin staff during the 10-day strike.

The walkout began this morning, with members of Unite the Union taking industrial action as a result of a dispute over pay and contractual issues.

The Isle of Man Trades Union Council says it's seen drivers vilified online, something it describes as 'deeply disappointing'.

In a statement on social media, the TUC says "drivers are not faceless, they are members of this community. They deserve fairness, not vilification."

Meanwhile, Bus Vannin is asking customers to be respectful to all of its staff during the strikes; those who are delivering the contingency services as well as those lawfully picketing.

Details of the contingency services can be found HERE.
