Trial for man who denies using dog to wound police officer

40-year-old committed to Court of General Gaol Delivery

A Douglas man who denies using his dog to wound a police sergeant has been committed to stand trial.

James Marcus Doherty’s case has now been elevated to the Court of General Gaol Delivery.

The 40-year-old, of Murrays Road, appeared at Douglas Courthouse, via video link, from the Isle of Man Prison; he's previously denied the assault charge.

He allegedly told his Staffordshire Bull Terrier: ‘Bite her, bite her, get her’ as the female officer was trying to arrest him, at his home, on 17 July.  

There was no application for bail and he will next appear before the higher court on a date to be set.
