Trees for Life scheme completed

The last of some 500 indigenous broad leaf trees have been planted in this year's 'Trees for Life' project.

The work was carried out by children from Kewaigue and Willaston schools at Conrhenny plantation, off the Creg-ny-Baa back road. Pupils from other schools around the Island had been at the site every day last week planting their trees.

It's hoped a total of around 2,500 trees will be planted at the site over the next four years by which time a new site on the Island will have been cleared for planting.

Political Member for Forestry Amenity and Lands at DAFF, Brenda Cannell MHK, has been instrumental in organising the scheme, in conjunction with the Department of Education, and she hopes as well as planting the saplings, the scheme has planted a seed of interest in the children in trees, wildlife and the importance of the environment.
