Treasury rejects medical society’s criticism of proposed NHS levy

Alex Allinson thinks IOMMS has the 'wrong end of the stick', as consultation continues on funding future health care provision

The treasury minister claims the Isle of Man Medical Society 'have the wrong end of the stick' on plans for a new NHS levy.

A consultation is underway asking how much should be charged, as Alex Allinson says health spending has increased 14 percent each year over the last five years, at a faster rate than economic growth.

Any new levy wouldn't come into force until the 2027/28 financial year, at the earliest.

The medical society say the tax is 'regressive' and risks widening existing inequalities by placing a disproportional burden on vulnerable people.
