Travellers warned to be aware of current foot-and-mouth restrictions

European outbreak leads to the culling of thousands of animals

With the peak holiday season approaching travellers returning to the Isle of Man are being reminded they face severe penalties if they bring animal or dairy products from the EU into the Island.

This is because of the ongoing restrictions put in place by the Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture to counter the threat of foot-and-mouth disease.

An outbreak in Europe has led to the culling of thousands of animals in Germany, Hungary and Slovakia.

DEFA's Chief Veterinary Officer, Dr Amy Beckett says the restrictions are a crucial step in protecting the Island's agricultural industry, and travellers need to be aware of the measures when it comes to bringing goods into the Island.
