Tranquil space to ease parents' loss

A peaceful woodland in the Manx countryside will be opened today (22 Nov) for bereaved parents to plant trees in memory of their children.

 

Sleeping Angel Wood near Injebreck reservoir has been created by a group of local families who've been affected by miscarriage, stillbirth and neonatal death.

 

It aims to be a retreat for those who lost babies, whether recently or a long time ago, where planting a tree will symbolise lasting memories, as an alternative to visiting a grave.

 

Tori Smithies has gathered support for the project through a Facebook group, which has attracted many Island parents.

 

The woodland will be opened by David Cretney MLC this morning (11am).
