Traffic lights to be replaced at busy Douglas junction

Work at St Ninian's expected to take four weeks from 21 July

Work to replace the traffic lights at a busy junction in Douglas will get underway later this month.

The Department of Infrastructure says the lights system at St Ninian's Crossroads has reached the end of its life design, is no longer supported by the manufacturer and has become increasingly difficult to source parts for and maintain.

Installing a replacement system is expected to take around four weeks from 21 July, with traffic being managed using temporary traffic lights during that time.

A temporary pedestrian crossing will be installed between St Ninian's High School and the filling station.

The DoI warns that traffic through the junction is expected to be slower than usual, especially during peak travel times, so motorists may wish to consider using alternative routes.

The work has been deliberately scheduled to take place during the school holidays to minimise disruption.
