Face coverings advised, non-essential shops to close
As the Island prepares to enter a third lockdown tomorrow, take a look below at all the key announcements made by the government this morning:
Covid measures
- You're asked to stay at home, unless you're heading out to get food, daily exercise, or work (but only if you can't work from home).
- Trips to receive vaccines or attend medical appointments are permitted.
- Two metre social distancing measures will be brought back in all places 'where possible to do so'.
- Face coverings are 'strongly advised' outdoors, and mandatory on public transport.
- Anyone going out for exercise is asked to keep distant from others, and avoid crowds.
- Vulnerable people are being asked to shield once again, even if they've already been vaccinated.
Businesses
- Hospitality and leisure venues must close but may offer takeaway and delivery services.
- Building suppliers may open for trades but not to the public.
- Lifestyle businesses like hairdressers must close.
- Construction and other related trades will be allowed to continue where work is outside or on vacant properties. But social distancing and other precautions will be need to be followed.
- Those in the sector won't be able to enter a household unless it's for emergency repairs.
- Financial support like MERA, Salary Support and the Business Support Scheme will be coming back on Wednesday, with more details expected later today.
Schools
- Schools will close to most pupils with online learning coming back. Some will be open for vulnerable children and those of key workers.
- A return to hubs isn't taking place at this time, with schools remain where they are for now to give a more local service.
- Parents are asked to keep children at home where possible to limit numbers at schools.
- Nurseries and child minders will also have spaces for available for the children of key workers and vulnerable children.
