President of Tynwald Noel Cringle urged local residents to turn out in force for Saturday afternoon's naming ceremony for Cringle's Rock, and they heeded his call.
In glorious weather, about 100 people gathered around the barnicle encrusted boulder, a couple of hundred yards east of the Hilton Hotel, as veteran broadcaster and journalist Terry Cringle was honoured in a unique way.
Some time ago, Terry - with tongue in cheek - suggested his near namesake might help him fulfill his boyhood dream of having that small part of the Island bear his name.
