Seventeen-year-old broke into Laxey store

A court’s heard a 17-year-old from Douglas broke into a Laxey shop and stole a donation jar containing hundreds of pounds.

Connor Samuel Hall of Saddle Road appeared before High Bailiff Jayne Hughes at Douglas courthouse for sentencing.

He'd previously pleaded guilty to burgling Mother T’s in Laxey between 12 and 15 May and this year.

Prosecution advocate Rebecca Cubbon told the hearing Hall described the community and arts centre as the “hippy shop” before breaking in.

Miss Cubbon told the hearing Hall and another man took the glass jar containing between £300 and £400, but dropped it as they left the building on New Road.

They scooped up as much as many of the coins as they could, and after he was arrested Hall told police the money was savings he'd intended to pay into a bank.

The court heard Hall had a number of previous convictions.

Mrs Hughes imposed a combination order meaning he'll spend the next 12 months under the supervision of the probation service and carry out 80 hours community service.
