Teenager assaulted police officer after stealing cars

Ramsey woman admits series of offences across north and west of Island

A Ramsey teenager’s admitted stealing two cars an abandoning them in a crime spree across the north and west of the Island.

Eighteen-year-old Melissa Brew of Cronk Elfin appeared before magistrates at Douglas courthouse.

She pleaded guilty to two charges of stealing cars, two of theft, and one each of common assault, resisting police officers and assaulting a police officer.

Prosecution advocate Rachael Braidwood told the hearing Brew – along with 27-year-old Jason Liam Christian – took a blue MG from the car park in St Paul’s Square in the early hours of 26 September.

Brew and Christian drove to a Sulby farm shop, where CCTV caught her stealing a bag of potatoes and money before the duo dumped the car because it was out of fuel.

At around 7am that morning, they stole a green Land Rover from Cranstal Road in Bride and took that vehicle to a petrol station in Kirk Michael.

There, Brew stole a bottle of wine before getting back into the car and taking it to Peel where they left it near the harbour – Mrs Braidwood said the teenager had posted a video online showing the couple in the stolen vehicles.

Magistrates adjourned the case while pre-sentencing reports are prepared and granted Brew bail until she appears in court again on 5 December.
