Teenager admits possessing £10,000 worth of heroin

18-year-old remanded in custody

An 18-year-old from Douglas has been remanded in custody after admitting possessing heroin worth up to £10,000.

Sean Daniel Fitzpatrick of Spectrum Apartments appeared via a live videolink before magistrates at Douglas Courthouse.

He admitted one charge of possessing class A drugs with intent to supply them at his home on 6 May.

Prosecution advocate Rebecca Cubbon told the court police had carried out a drugs raid at Fitzpatrick’s flat just before 7:30am that morning and found the teenager inside with another man.

A search by officers unearthed just over 42 grammes of heroin, split into 14 individual wraps.

In total, the packages of class A drugs were worth between £5,000 and £10,000 – magistrates heard the estimated value varied because it’s common practice to adulterate them before selling them.

The court heard current sentencing guidelines could mean a jail term of between seven and nine years, and magistrates said the case would have to be heard by a higher court.

Fitzpatrick was remanded in custody and committed to a Court of General Gaol Delivery to appear again for sentencing on 18 May.
