Teenager admits £400 theft from Peel Golf Club

A teenager who stole money from his employer has appeared in court.

Nineteen-year-old Jakob Michael Hewer of Mona Street in Peel appeared before magistrates at Douglas courthouse.

He admitted one count of theft, and the court was also asked to revoke a community service order.

Prosecution advocate Rachel Braidwood told the hearing Hewer worked behind the bar at Peel Golf Club.

The hearing was told Hewer had been taking money from the till and refunding cash payments from customers to cover his tracks.

When confronted, he explained the refunds by claiming his girlfriend - who worked with him - had made a number of mistakes on the till.

But under questioning from officers, he admitted stealing £400 from the club.

Magistrates asked for probation reports to be prepared before he's sentenced, and bailed him in the sum of £500 until his next appearance.
