Teen who crashed on Mountain Road told consequences 'could have been horrendous'

A teenager from Peel has been fined £400 after losing control of his car on the Mountain Road just months after passing his driving test.

Luke Nathan, of Ballaterson Road, admitted driving without due care and attention on 22 September last year during an appearance at Douglas Courthouse.

The 18-year-old’s Citroen hit an embankment at Keppel Gate, travelled across the carriageway becoming ‘almost airborne’ and ended up in a field; the vehicle was later written off.

Nathan’s advocate told the court that his client lost control on damp roads due to his ‘inexperience’ and he was now reluctant to drive on the Mountain Road adding: “It’s frightened him that much.”

“This is an accident that’s left quite a mark on him,” he told the court: “He’s sorry and grateful to the emergency services on the day.”

Endorsing his licence with four penalty points, and extending his R-plate requirements by three months, Magistrates told Nathan: “The consequences could have been horrendous.”

The teen must also pay prosecution costs of £50.
