Suspended sentence for thief who stole three times in three weeks

39-year-old changed pleas before trial

A Douglas man's been handed a suspended sentence after shoplifting three times in three weeks.

Thirty-nine-year-old Jonathon Edward Myers, of Princes Avenue, appeared at Douglas Courthouse.

At an earlier hearing he'd pleaded not guilty to three counts of theft but changed his plea shortly before a pre-trial review hearing.

The court heard Myers, and another man, targeted Boots in Strand Street twice - taking grooming equipment.

On the first occasion, on 23 November, Myers took two Oral-B electric toothbrushes before returning on 2 December and stealing a shaver worth £449.

On 10 December he was caught trying to steal a woolly hat worth £22 from JD Sports.

The court heard Myers was a longstanding drug addict with a long criminal record of thefts.

He was jailed for 14 weeks which was suspended for two years.

Myers was also ordered to pay £355 compensation and prosecution costs of £300.
