Survey shows big changes since mid 90s

Average weekly expenditure for households in the Isle of Man increased by 80 per cent between 1996 and 2007.

The latest household income and expenditure survey carried out by the Treasury shows a figure of £334 in the mid-90s, rising to just over £600 last year.

On the other side of the equation, the average weekly gross income last year was just over £700.

Households with the lowest 25% of incomes had a gross figure of £258, compared with £1,270 for the top quarter.

Last year 72 per cent of household income came from employment, compared with 63 per cent in 1996.

The survey is based on the income and expenditure of 151 households, covering almost 400 individuals.
