
A Manx woman who supports the families of foreign diplomats has been named in the Queen's Birthday Honours List.
Doreen Underhill has been awarded the MBE for services to the military attache wives' committee in London.
Mrs Underhill organises weekly meetings for the wives of army attaches who are posted to the capital and often find themselves isolated.
She helps them find their feet, make friends and learn the language.
Mrs Underhill was born Doreen Corris. She was educated at Murray's Road School and the former Douglas High School for Girls, married a Manxman and raised her family on the Island. She still keep a home in Douglas.
