Surgeon: hospital stretched after Bray Hill incident

The decision to restart Friday's Senior TT was a very close call, according to a senior medic at Noble's Hospital.

Resources were stretched to the limit when 10 spectators were injured after competitor Jonathan Howarth lost control of his motorbike at the bottom of Bray Hill, debris from the machine careering into a crowd.

None of those hurt has life-threatening injuries and three of four people who underwent surgery have since been transferred to UK trauma centres.

Race organisers had to wait for confirmation from Noble's that sufficient medical cover was available in the event of another serious incident - with so many staff involved in looking after casualties from the Bray Hill accident.
