Supermarket hopes to start building next year

The company behind plans to open an Iceland store in Braddan says it hopes to get work underway early next year. 

Isle of Man Development Company submitted plans for a new Iceland Food Warehouse store on the Spring Valley Estate in Braddan.

Those plans were submitted in October 2025, but have yet to go to planners as the company worked on amended plans to deal with issues raised over traffic and parking.

It also considered ideas put forward by the government to switch sites to sites on Demesne Road, South Quay, the Fairfield School site, Park Road and the King Gaming site on Victoria Road, but these were rejected. 

In a statement to Manx Radio, IOMDC managing director Sarah Brew said the companies 'are still fully committed to delivering a new Iceland Food Warehouse at the Spring Valley Trading Estate'.  

She added: "Since the plans were submitted last year, we have been making a number of changes to the scheme to reflect comments that have been received from various statutory consultees and officers within DEFA.  

"Final versions of the plans have recently been submitted with a view to having the application determined within the next few months.

"If planning permission is granted, we would then be looking to start work on the store at the beginning of 2027."

Concerns about the plans have been raised by local businesses and Douglas Council.
