Consultation over mail services and post offices due soon
Change is 'fundamental' to the future financial stability of services on the Island - that's the message from the Isle of Man Post Office.
The organisation says it's seen a huge drop in the use of its traditional services over the past decade, and has put together a five-year strategy to address the challenges it faces.
Earlier this week, the Communication Workers' Union hit out at potential cuts to some services, and changes to workers' employment terms and pensions.
In a statement, the Post Office says the number of letters sent has dropped by 47% over the past ten years, a trend put down to the increased use of electronic communications.
Over-the-counter transactions are falling too, by an average of 7% annually.
Bosses say, in order to remain self-funding, the four divisions of the business need to be streamlined - that covers Coins and Stamps, Integrated Mailing Solutions, Letters and Parcels, and the Sub-Post Office Network.
A consultation outlining potential changes to mail deliveries and regional post offices is due to be launched shortly.
The organisation also states its pension scheme is unsustainable in its current form and must be addressed.
