Storm Éowyn: Island on red weather alert

Violent storm force winds expected today

The Isle of Man is bracing itself for widespread disruption today due to Storm Éowyn.

A red weather warning for violent storm force winds will come into force at 7am.

A very deep area of low pressure will peak this morning before gradually easing into the afternoon.

South or southwest winds – with gusts of around 85 miles per hour – are likely in exposed coastal areas and on higher ground.

At the Met Office, Forecaster Stuart Davison says they've already recorded gusts of 62 mph and it's only going to increase:

All schools on the Isle of Man will remain closed today (25 January).

Government is asking people to stay at home if possible and only to travel if absolutely necessary.

The Mountain Road is closed and there will be no buses running across the Island until 2pm. 

The airport has been shut until 4pm and Steam Packet sailings have also been cancelled.
