Storm advice from weathermen and police

Police are advising people not to travel unless absolutely necessary tonight.

Storm force winds are expected in some areas which could lead to fallen trees and structural damage.

Weather forecaster Colin Gartshaw says it's already quite windy (4pm), but worse is to come (first part of audio file):

Department of Infrastructure crews with chainsaws, sweepers and wagon cranes will work through the night to deal with any storm related problems.

The Manx Electricity Authority is also ready in case of power outages.

Inspector Mark Britton is urging people to think carefully about the need to dial 999 this evening and tonight because the emergency services are likely to be very busy.
