Steam Packet urged to be more 'transparent' over Manxman issues

Nature of work keeping boat in dry dock goes unexplained 

The Steam Packet is being urged to be more ‘transparent’ and tell the Manx public what is wrong with the Manxman.

The three-year-old boat - which cost taxpayers £80 million - has had its spell in dry dock extended after ‘essential works’ were identified.

It won’t return to service until the necessary repairs are carried out which the company says require ‘additional time to complete’.

Despite being asked the Steam Packet hasn’t confirmed the nature of the work needed or the reason for the issues.  

Customers have also expressed frustration at the unreliability of the service and the impact it's having on their plans.

“The rumour mill is in overdrive with allegations that the defects are significant and the timescale could run into months. Come on Steam Packet - it is time to respond.” - Manx Radio listener 

At the same time there has been claims that passengers have been left sitting outside the Isle of Man Ferry Terminal in Liverpool due to a lack of space.

The Ben-my-Chree and the MV Arrow have now been drafted in to provide back-up.
