Steam Packet could face detours

The Steam Packet Company could be in line for compensation after losing a fight to stop a wind farm development in the Irish Sea.

This week, the West of Duddon Sands Wind Farm was given the go-ahead by the United Kingdom’s Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform.

But the site lies directly on the route the Ben-my-Chree takes to Heysham, which could lead to costly detours when work starts on the development.

Edmund Brookes of the UK Chamber of Shipping says the Steam Packet could be in line for a compensation windfall (audio file attached):

Manx Radio has contacted the Steam Packet Company, but there has been no comment from it yet.
