Staffing shortages continue to impact Manx breast clinic services

Key specialist unavailable for at least three weeks as Manx Care works to maintain breast services

Manx Care has confirmed ongoing staffing issues are continuing to affect services at the Isle of Man’s breast clinic.

An unexpected short-term absence means it will be without a breast radiologist for at least the next three weeks - a role described as ‘vital’ to the wider breast care team.

Manx Care says it is holding extra sessions where possible and seeking locum support, but services will remain disrupted in the coming weeks.

Two additional clinics were held last week, with three scheduled this week and two more being planned.

The health body highlights the wider shortage of breast radiologists across the UK, adding that the Island’s 'geographical isolation' makes short-notice recruitment challenging.

Patients affected by the disruption have been contacted directly, and Manx Care says it remains in regular communication with those awaiting care.

Anyone with concerns is advised to contact their GP or speak to a breast care nurse for advice.
