Island community honoring 'Aluth Avurudu'
Members of the Isle of Man Sri Lankan community are hosting a new year's celebration in Onchan today (18 April).
Aluth Avurudu, which officially falls on 14 April marks the end of the harvest season and the beginning of a new cycle of prosperity and unity.
The event is being held at the Manx Fun Farm.
The day features:
- Traditional Rituals: Lighting of the oil lamp and traditional New Year greetings.
- Cultural Cuisine: An array of authentic Sri Lankan sweets and spicy delicacies.
- Traditional Games: Fun, competitive games unique to Sri Lanken heritage that involve the whole family.
- Community Spirit: A gathering of the growing Sri Lankan diaspora and friends from across the Manx community.
