Seven charged with driving over the legal limit
Sixteen drivers were arrested over the festive period as part of the Road Policing Unit's anti-drink and drug drive campaign.
Between 4 December and 3 January, officers stopped 360 people, ordering 72 to take a roadside breath-test.
Sixteen were subsequently arrested, seven were charged for driving whilst over the limit, and six have been bailed awaiting results.
The remaining three drivers were released after having later been found to be under the legal limit.
Sergeant Taylor of the Road Policing Unit said: 'Despite having the taxi’s and an enhanced bus service available, it is disappointing to see that some people took the unacceptable risk of choosing to drink/ drug drive.'
Sixteen DUI arrests were also made during the same period in 2019.
